Lately...
Wow, I stink at this blogging thing lately! You'll be happy to know that life at Fro Yo has slowed down, so to speak. I no longer feel it would make more sense to put a cot over at the shop, I'm hardly there anymore! We have some great managers and employees who are capable of doing things all on their own. Our latest Fro Yo change has been a possible change in our name, so we can trademark it. Fro Yo on it's own is too generic. The second is that we are praying about a second store, run by my mom, Jan. She is super excited about this possibility and is already training in hopes that the second shop will be coming soon. We shall see!
In May, we went to Hawaii with our dear friends the Velings. It was one of the most amazing trips we've ever taken. We mostly sat at the beach and did nothing, something we aren't very accustomed to. It was fabulous! We did touristy stuff too but nothing crazy planned, we all loved it. It was this trip that got us out of the shop and showed us that it could, in fact, function without us, yippee!
Following is the links to view some of the photos:
In June, John and I were able to fly to San Diego to see Jessi graduate from HSE. It's crazy to think we have an adult child, whoa. She came home for a few weeks and is now back in San Diego helping with the summer high school version of HSE. She will return on August 2nd. We are excited to see what's next for her!
Lucy has graduated from High School, another whoa, at least for me. She has been a tremendous help, not only at home but at the shop as well. She even manages for us sometimes, it's great. She is just working right now and saving for a car, no rush to run off to college, she's content to wait and see what God has for her.
Leah got her permit in January but because we were so busy opening Fro Yo, she's really only just started to drive. Talk about a faith grower. It's not that any of the girls has been so terrible, it's that I'm not in control. Those of you that know me know, I really, really, really like to be in control and know where I'm going and what I'm doing. I guess God is using this to teach me to rely on Him knowing, without my knowing. For those of you not there yet, it's SO HARD!!!
Jenna and Laura are adjusting still to sharing a bedroom, but they are doing well. Jarod, of course, loves having his own room and has recently been allowed to add Lego to his bedroom, my living room is quite happy with the change.
The girls and I recently had an impromptu devo in the car on the way to a baby shower. The song, "Back Home", by JJ Heller came on and prompted our conversation. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qon4vgyThRc) The first line is, "Don't let your eyes, get used to darkness, the light, is coming soon." We talked about the verse Psalm 1:1 - Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.
We are known for our rather strict rules but this is why. We aren't just all of a sudden sitting where we shouldn't be, we are first walking through, then find ourselves standing among it, and before long, we're sitting right in the midst of sin. All around us, we see our friends who are letting their eyes get used to darkness, they don't realize it yet but they are nearly sitting somewhere they never thought they'd be. The girls have witnessed this too so it was a great opportunity to reflect on why we do what we do, it's all for Jesus...
I encourage you, don't let your eyes get used to darkness, the Light, is coming soon.
