The airport here in Taipei has a transit program that offers a free tour of the city when you have a long layover. We signed up before we left home and it worked out perfect. We tried to doze during the morning and succeeded as much as you can in an airport. We showed up for the 1:45pm tour with just a few other people. It was hard to stay awake on the shuttle but we really enjoyed the tour. Now we are in the Priority Pass club waiting 4 more hours for our flight. I'm sure there will be more napping! We have two seperate layovers in Canada before our final flight home. We can hardly wait for our own bed!

This trip to Southeast Asia was magical. We enjoyed every moment of it and are so thankful to the Martins for letting us tag along!

Hope you enjoyed reading about it!

I knew it was a big city but I just didn't realize how big. We said goodbye to our Chiang Mai hotel and flew to Bangkok. Just as before, security was a breeze. We grabbed some McDonald's, a double double cheeseburger and a Big Big Mac. YUM.

We arrived in Bangkok and dropped all of our things at the Martins hotel. They still have a few days here. We found a cheap, local restaurant and loved it!

From there we took a water taxi and then walked to Wat Arun. Of course they were doing some restoration work so there was scaffolding. But its still a beautiful temple. Using porcelin and glass on the outside.

We returned to the hotel exhausted. It seems every short drive turns into 45min. The kids went for a swim and the adults, well, the ladies, decided to dress up and check out the rooftop restaurant. What a view! Especially as a rain storm moved in!

After that we decided to check out the night market. It was a bit too crowded and hot but definitely a cultural experience! We ate well and found a few shirts. We had to wait a bit for our Uber and then had crazy traffic, at nearly 11pm at night! So rather than an hour to relax and play games at the Martins hotel, we asked our Uber driver if he'd take us to the airport, we ran up and grabbed our luggage and said hurried good byes. International travel took a little longer to get through security, but still no trouble. We had 30min to spare before we boarded our flight at 1:30am. Somehow, our Kiwi booking put 4 of us in business class, and Jenna in coach. But she ended up with a whole row to lay down and sleep, and John gave her his meal, so it was all good!

And besides, they kept business class FREEZING, and coach was warmer. We asked for blankets but you have to purchase them. John read somewhere in the last couple weeks that they do it on purpose so you buy blankets. They must have grown tired of our chattering teeth though, because eventually it started warming up! We landed just before 7am in Taipei, Taiwan. We are killing time in the food court area until our free city tour at 1:45pm. Our plane leaves at 11:55pm tonight.

It so crazy to see all the parents riding their tiny kids around on scooters!

There is some awesome architecture in Bangkok!

The planes here are real happy. 😂

final day in chiang mai

We had an adventurous ride back from the treehouse. We hopped in the back of a truck to get to a boat, and then a van back to our hotel. We spent some time relaxing and then went out for $6 massages again. Then it was local street food for dinner. You can tell the end of the trip is near. Everyone is tired but handling it like champs!

We were picked up at 8:30am this morning, JUST as my last pic uploaded for yesterdays blog!

We had lost our mifi yesterday but the ziplining place found it in their van and will bring it back to us tomorrow. We also found Jennas camera battery and charger at our previous hotel and stopped to pick that up on our way out of town!

Our first stop was a local market. We saw the usual fan fare, got spicy papaya salad, fried chicken, and iced coffee.

Next stop was Sticky Falls. Its fed by a calcium rich stream and made of limestone and SUPER grippy. Most of us climbed all the way up the falls. Barefoot or in flipflops. We ended the falls trip with ice cream.

We were amazed arriving at the Chiang Mai Treehouse resort. They have many different treehouse options. We have two of the family size units. We used some of their bicycles and explored a bat cave near by. Accross the road was a view of a lake and then we rode back. The bikes were beach cruiser types but the terrain was mtn bike. So we got a little muddy, but had some great laughs!

Had a nice afternoon swim in the creek and then played games.

Dinner was chicken and also fish with soup and rice. Dessert was white AND pink dragon fruit.

After dinner was a highlight for my day. A walk to the banana grove where we saw.....

Now we're hangin' in the common area playing games and even got to facetime with Leah.

Its been a great day!
