bangkok
I knew it was a big city but I just didn't realize how big. We said goodbye to our Chiang Mai hotel and flew to Bangkok. Just as before, security was a breeze. We grabbed some McDonald's, a double double cheeseburger and a Big Big Mac. YUM.
We arrived in Bangkok and dropped all of our things at the Martins hotel. They still have a few days here. We found a cheap, local restaurant and loved it!
From there we took a water taxi and then walked to Wat Arun. Of course they were doing some restoration work so there was scaffolding. But its still a beautiful temple. Using porcelin and glass on the outside.
We returned to the hotel exhausted. It seems every short drive turns into 45min. The kids went for a swim and the adults, well, the ladies, decided to dress up and check out the rooftop restaurant. What a view! Especially as a rain storm moved in!
After that we decided to check out the night market. It was a bit too crowded and hot but definitely a cultural experience! We ate well and found a few shirts. We had to wait a bit for our Uber and then had crazy traffic, at nearly 11pm at night! So rather than an hour to relax and play games at the Martins hotel, we asked our Uber driver if he'd take us to the airport, we ran up and grabbed our luggage and said hurried good byes. International travel took a little longer to get through security, but still no trouble. We had 30min to spare before we boarded our flight at 1:30am. Somehow, our Kiwi booking put 4 of us in business class, and Jenna in coach. But she ended up with a whole row to lay down and sleep, and John gave her his meal, so it was all good!
And besides, they kept business class FREEZING, and coach was warmer. We asked for blankets but you have to purchase them. John read somewhere in the last couple weeks that they do it on purpose so you buy blankets. They must have grown tired of our chattering teeth though, because eventually it started warming up! We landed just before 7am in Taipei, Taiwan. We are killing time in the food court area until our free city tour at 1:45pm. Our plane leaves at 11:55pm tonight.
It so crazy to see all the parents riding their tiny kids around on scooters!
There is some awesome architecture in Bangkok!
The planes here are real happy. 😂
